Review Policy

Note: For the summer/fall of 2013, I'm not accepting new books for review - I've just been so busy. Try back this winter.  Thanks!

I'm sure you've noticed that I post book reviews on this blog - kind of hard to miss.  I do accept books for that purpose, but please use the following guidelines in determining if I'm a good fit for your product.

My blog readers tend to be conservative, as am I.  I don't enjoy reading books that contain graphic or gratuitous violence, obscene language, sensuality, or any use of the occult.  I am an ardent worshiper of Jesus Christ and I will never promote anything on my blog that speaks negatively of Him.

In addition, I believe in what Boyd K. Packer had to say about the mind:  "... the mind is like a stage. During every waking moment the curtain is up, there is always some act being performed on that stage. It may be a comedy, a tragedy, interesting or dull, good or bad; but always there is some act playing on the stage of your mind."  He goes on to talk about music's degrading influence and how we must choose our music carefully, lest it put thoughts on the stages of our minds that shouldn't be there.  I believe the same is true of what we read, and so I'm choosy about what I review.  You can read the rest of President Packer's talk here

If you would like to discuss your book  with me, you can send me an e-mail here.  Please include a blurb about your book so I can tell if it's something that appeals to me.  If your book is chosen for review, I will provide you with my mailing address.  After I've received the book, one of the following things will happen:

  • I'll read it, like it, and review it on this blog.
  • I'll read it, like it, and review it on Families.com.  This will be determined by the book's topic and if it applies to a category I cover for Families.com.
  • I'll read it, dislike it, and contact you.  I will either mail it back to you or to another reviewer of your choosing.
I am an honest reviewer, meaning that I will say what I think, but I'm a fair reviewer, meaning that I won't rip you up.  Expect my review to include a synopsis of the story, a list of things I enjoyed, and one or two comments about things I would have done differently or would have liked to see in the book. If I really can't say anything nice about the book, I'll send it back.

Some books are used as giveaways.  This generates more attention for your book, so this isn't a bad thing - it's just that due to limited shelf space, I can't keep everything I receive, as much as I would like to.

Thanks for visiting my blog and considering me as a possible reviewer for your product.
